Directions

The 2nd and 3rd grade students studied the cardinal and intermediate directions in Social Studies.  We discussed the directions in the classroom and to help review the directions we used the basketball court.  The students had to say if the direction they had was a cardinal or intermediate direction and then go the spot on the basketball court that was the correct direction.  They enjoyed being outside for class.

Grandparents Program

On Friday, September 12, the second and third graders had a program for their grandparents.  This was in honor of Grandparents Day.  The students recited two poems and sang a song for everyone in attendance.  They also presented their gifts to their grandparents who were able to attend.  They made Grandma and Grandpa diplomas and also gave them a pot holder with their hand print on it.  We then watched a video that showed our grandparents.  We ended our program with cookies, punch, and visiting.  Some of the grandparents were unable to attend so parents came so every student was represented.  It was so great to have all those who could attend and we missed those who couldn’t attend.

Under the Ocean

We have splashed into a great school year!  The students determined the theme of ‘Under the Ocean’ as we are going to explore this year on our yellow submarine.  The kids decorated a fish with jewels to add to our door and they really sparkle on there.  We have also started to get into some of their books.  Please be sure to look at the blog as I try to post their vocabulary words from reading and their spelling words on the blog weekly.  The kids thought it was awesome that their parents had homework to complete.  I have the ‘Homeworkopoly Board’ again this year.  The students get to roll the dice every Wednesday and Friday if they complete their homework every day.  This is a great incentive for them to get their homework completed every day.  They really enjoy playing and a highlight to their week to be able to roll the dice.  If you have an questions or concerns throughout the year don’t hesitate to contact me.

I captured pictures of each student the first day of school.

Playground fun!

We used a ball of string and passed it around the circle by starting out saying, "If you really knew me you would know that....."  This phrase was taken from a speaker that the teachers heard the week before school started.  The yarn also shows that we are connected to one another as a family at school and we will all stick together this year school as we learn, grow, and play.

Welcome Back!

It is always hard to see summer end and I tend to drag my feet just as much as the kids getting back in the routine of school.  This last week as I spent time in my classroom preparing for another school year I am looking forward to a seeing all the kids again at school to fill the classrooms with learning and laughter.  Our first day of school is this Friday, August 15 at 8:05.  We dismiss at noon on the first day.  We would enjoy having you for mass on the first day at 8:15.  No lunch will be served on the first day of school.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday!
