First Week of School

The first week of school was a success!  A brief overview of what we started studying.

  • We started our reading off for the year by reading a book together, "Dolphins at Daybreak" by Mary Pope Osborne.  The kids really enjoy reading the book and are working hard on their assignment after reading each chapter.  We want to thank a cousin of Miss Liewer's for donating five books to our classroom.
  • In science we are studying about plants.  The kids are awesome at doing actions for the four main parts of a plant.  We start with our feet being the roots, our legs being the stem, our arms being the leaves, and our head is the flower.
  • We are studying about communities in social studies and how we all participate in our community.
  • Religion finds us learning about creation.  We also had a visitor on Friday morning, Sister Rita Claire Judge, she is Miss Bailey's great aunt.  It was great having her visit.
  • We are studying doubles math facts and played some games on the SMARTBOARD a few times.  The second graders learned about ordinal position and the third graders and learning about measuring length and width of a rectangle.
  • We also celebrated our first birthday of year.  Have a great year and thanks for bringing treats!  They were yummy!

    First Day of School!

Our first day of school went great!  We attended mass in the morning.  Afterwards we joined the rest of the school in our lunchroom for an activity to get to know each other.  After coming back in the room we worked on taking our school supplies out of our book bags and putting them into our desks. Before recess we went outside to take our first day of school pictures.  After coming back in from recess, classroom jobs and rules were discussed before we dismissed school for the day.  Excited for the new year with my students!

    Flat Stanley

February 10th was a beautiful day for us to take a walk to the post office and mail Flat Stanley.  It was fun to hear the kids say their good-byes to Stanley as they dropped him in the mailbox.  I have heard small details about some the adventures Stanley has had already.  It will be exciting in a few weeks when he starts to arrive back to your classroom.

    Making Pies

A little late on this post but the 2nd and 3rd graders worked well together in partners to help make the pumpkin pies for our Thanksgiving meal.  They used math skills by measuring out the ingredients for each pie.  I was so proud of how they took turns when it was their turn to measure the ingredients.  I was able to catch some of these moments on camera.

    Parish Auction

If you are around this Sunday, October 26 please plan to attend St. Joseph’s Parish Auction at the Atkinson Community Center.  Coffee and rolls will be served in the morning and lunch throughout the day.   The auction begins at 11:00.  The 2nd and 3rd graders painted pumpkins that are currently on display at Great Western Bank and will be auctioned off on Sunday.  They did a great job of painting their pumpkins.  See you at the auction!

    Pumpkin Patch

The Kindergarten through third grade students recently enjoyed a blustery fall morning at Liewer Gardens to find their perfect pumpkin.  The students helped load some pumpkins in the back of the pickup before finding theirs.  After they all found their pumpkin we enjoyed a snack before we headed into Butte to do a craft at Country Dreams.  Thanks to the parents who helped in any way to make our visit to the pumpkin patch possible.
