Color Milk
The students thought this was a neat experiment. We poured whole milk into a flat tray, added
drops of food coloring, and then added drops of dish soap. As the drops of soap were added we were able
to see how the colors swirl together. I
asked the students why they thought this happened. They had some responses, but none of them
were correct. So I explained how this
worked. The main job of dish soap is to
break down fat. When the soap is dropped
into the milk it tried the break down the fat in the milk. While it was doing that, the colors scattered
and swirled together. Try this
experiment at home and see the colors swirl!

Rock Candy
We did a few science experiments to end the school
year. One of them was making rock
candy. We walked down to the KC Hall to
do this because we needed heat. I
reminded the students that sometimes experiments don’t always work and they
shouldn’t be disappointed if theirs didn’t turn and others did. I am really proud of the students as some did
turn out and some didn’t, all the students were glad to participate though. The
experiment was sent home with the students so maybe you can try it with your
child this summer.
Adding and waiting for water to boil
Now it is time to add the sugar.
