President's Day

Today for President's Day we read a short book about George Washington.  It had lots of good information in it.  We also made Patriotic Wind Socks that are now hanging in the room.  We also read part of a book called "President's Stuck in the Bathtub".  Did you know that this acutally happened to one of the presidents?  This was President William Howard Taft. The book is short poems about the presidents and has some interesting facts.  A few other facts, our first president George Washington never slept in the White House and John Quincy Adams used to skinny-dip in the Potomac.  If you would like to know more you can check the book out at the Atkinson Library.

Wild West Day

Howdy y'all!  On January 26, the school was transformed to look like the Wild West.  The 6-8th grade students worked hard building a wagon to travel in.  The younger grades were able to help pack a few things in the wagon that people would take on the trail.  The K-3 students realized that the bathtub was really small and people only took a bath about once a week.
Miss Liewer's uncle Ron Liewer joined us for the day.  He even brought his Sheep Herders's Wagon to show to the kids.  This wagon was taken in the mountains and the people who watched the sheep would live in the wagon.  All the kids thought the wagon was neat.  Ronnie enjoyed the day just as much as the kids did.  Thanks Ronnie for coming and spending the day with us!
Chris Slaymaker also came and demonstrated how people made soap.  This was neat to see.  Everyone got a small piece of soap to take home.  Thanks for coming Chris!
