Big Dipper

To wrap up our chapter in Science about patterns in the sky the students made an example of the Big Dipper.  Materials used were straws, tin foil, model magic, ruler, and scissors. The students had to cut the straws different lengths using millimeters with their rulers.  After cutting the straws the different lengths they wrapped a ball of tin foil around the end of each straw.   Finally they used a small ball of model magic to make the straws stand on the paper.  They realized that if they stood on their chairs they could see the Big Dipper easier when looking at it from above.
